12 months - Week 4

Cate is really walking now. She immediately stands up to walk instead of still trying to crawl to you. She still crawls sometimes, but walking seems to be her main source of transportation. :) I was told this week at school that Cate walks to the door of the classroom, turns and waves at everyone and then takes off done the hall. She goes to see Ms. Michelle at the front desk nearly everyday.

I received a note in her locker this week that Cate will be moving out of the baby room and into the toddler room next week! It's sad and exciting at the same time. She has been going over to visit in her new classroom this whole week to get used to the transition. It will likely be me that has to get used to it,  not her.

For the first time in baby room history at school, someone was bitten. Luckily Cate was not the biter, but she was the bitten! A little boy in her class bit her on the hand. She was fine, just surprised her. When I went to pick her up for the day I was informed of what happened. They are not allowed to tell who did it but the teachers asked Cate who bit her, to see if she'd tell. Cate looked around the room and then held her hand up at a little boy. They all immediately laughed because she pointed out the right person! The rest of the day she would hold her hand up for you to see. She was defiantly milking it! The following day at school, the little boy's parents left a note and a gift in Cate's locker apologizing for the incident. It was really a kind gesture, but completely not necessary. Kids bite, I'm sure this won't be the last incident we'll encounter!

Cate has molars coming in. Mike pointed out a top tooth in the back has already broken through! I'm sure the rest aren't far behind!

12 Months - Week 3

Cate has finally gotten over hand, foot and mouth virus. But she gave it to Daddy. It is apparently not very fun and very painful. Cate is all well and Daddy is beginning to feel better now.
Cate has been eating more solids. We are trying to get away from the baby food. For breakfast she has been eating mini-pancakes, lunch she's been eating Gerber mac and cheese or rice and veggies, and for dinner she's been eating chicken nuggets and yogurt. She's been doing great with the transition to whole milk. Now we need to master a sippy cup and get away from the bottle!

At school this week, Cate brought home her Valentine art work.

This week I was told that Cate got up and walked all the way across the classroom! That's about 12-15 feet! The next day I was told she had done it again! Finally the same evening she decided to show us her walking skills! She's been walking around the whole house ever since!

12 months - week 2

Cate has been back and forth yucky this past week. One kid in her class got Hand, Foot, Mouth, which is just a virus. They get little blisters around their mouth, hands, feet and sometimes on their bottoms. Cate got it. :( There isn't anything that can be done. Just wash hands alot and just let it takes its course. It is supposed to last about a week. We are about halfway there.

Cate has been eating more solids. Peas, noodles, green beans, chicken nuggets, pancakes (no syrup). Cate is also now drinking whole milk. No more formula! yay! :)

Cate is getting more adventurous on the stairs. She likes to climb up and down the stairs. She wants to walk down the stairs like a big girl, but her legs aren't long enough yet. So she's had to learn to climb down backwards. She doesn't like it!

I don't have any pics or videos for this week. Sorry :(

Cate is 1 year old!

Cate started out the week feverish. It mostly only popped up in the afternoon. Her teachers at school suspected teething. She also had off and on diarrhea. She was playing well and wasn't overly fussy because of it though.

Cate has still been taking sporadic steps. One evening Mike was eating a bowl of ice cream and she got up and walked right to him to see what he was eating.

This week at school, the classes learned about bears and birds. As a result, more art projects!

Cate had her birthday party at school on Thursday instead of Friday. She had a doctors appointment scheduled Friday afternoon and then with the weather getting bad, the school closed, so it worked out. I took cupcakes for all to enjoy in her class. The teachers took pictures, but I haven't gotten any of them yet. I will share when we get the pics!

I had her doctors appointment moved up to Friday morning instead of Friday afternoon since she was still feverish. They would not do her wellness check-up and shots since she had a fever. Her fever was a low 99 degrees. She had no ear infection, lungs sounded good. She was tested for strep just in case and it came out negative. The doc said it is just viral and it'll just have to pass on its own.

Cate has now figured out how to steer her dino push toy. If she does run into something, she has figured out how to pull it back and turn it to keep moving. Sometimes she still hollers for "Da" to come move it for her, but we now know she knows how to do it herself!

We had a small 'party' for Cate at the house on Saturday afternoon. We made hot dogs, Mike made her cake, and some friends came over to help celebrate Cate's birthday. Cate even ate hot dogs with us!

After lunch, Cate opened presents! She got a stuffed tool belt, cooking utensils, pots and pans, a block sorter, and Shane and Kayla got her a singing glow worm! Last week she got stuffed fruits and veggies from Stephenie, Todd and Raelee. She also wore her dress Stephenie made for her!

After presents, we sang 'Happy Birthday' and watched Cate dig into her cake!

Cate has been more aware of books lately. She pulls her books off the shelf to flip through the pages. We sit with her and read more often now too, since she has given such an interest. Sometimes she'll sit with you longer than others to read one or more books.

UPDATE: Here are pics of Cate playing with gifts from grandparents in TN! :)
